Working of PM Associates
Many Business Champions recite the unsophisticated view that “management consultants solve problems”.
This is what we were told forty years ago in business schools.
The real question is not what do management consultants do but what do management consultants actually do to add more value than they charge?
My friend Ioan Tenner took a crack at answering this question in his essay The Consulting Difference in which he suggested six powerful ways that consultants can add value:
- Making Complicated Things Simple,
- Reframing,
- Creating Options,
- Make end-user, your teammate
- Take A Practical Approach
- Avoid Student Syndrome, And
- Avoid Analysis Paralysis
1. Making Complicated Things Simple
There are two kinds of smart people. Those who make simple things complicated and those who make complicated things simple.”
Why do consultants give consultancy in more that three hundred pages? The answer is simple-
Because
- They appear to justify cost
- They mask uncertainty
- Thoroughness is reassuring
- It looks familiar
- Complexity creates Stockholm Syndrome

2. Reframing
Reframing is the art of identifying the right problem, the total problem, and the total solution. It is one of the most powerful techniques available for making your work more strategic to your clients and, often, broadening your engagements.
Reframing Principles
- Your client must feel ownership of the new frame.
- Your client must feel an emotional connection to the new frame
- You must put your client in the new frame.
- You must show your client the new frame, not just tell them about it.

3. Creating Options,
Creating options is a dynamism over your work canvass. Options not only for your clients Business Managers but also the End-Users, collaborators, financiers, strategists and all others associated in the field.
4. Make end-user, your teammate
Creating options for your End-User is one step only. Try to establish a communication between you and your End-Users. All strategies, all theories, psychologies, advertisement or anything else becomes meaningful if it addresses to your End-User. Make your End-User your teammate to win.
5. Take A Practical Approach
Practical Approach is an application process of a person experience or idea as being more concerned with or relevant to practice than theory, or something theory or method which was made or developed by others in past by an examination or lesson of theories and procedures. It can be used or applied to the actual making or implementing of something as well-known without verification.
6. Avoid Student Syndrome, And
Student syndrome refers to planned procrastination, when, for example, a student will only start to apply themselves to an assignment at the last possible moment before its deadline. This eliminates any potential safety margins and puts the person under stress and pressure. According to one academic source, it is done in order to induce a level of urgency high enough to ensure the proper amount of effort is put into the task.
7. Avoid Analysis Paralysis
Analysis paralysis (or paralysis by analysis) describes an individual or group process when over-analyzing or overthinking a situation can cause forward motion or decision-making to become “paralyzed”, meaning that no solution or course of action is decided upon.
